Cedar Ridge Lacrosse Tops Carrboro 10-7 for 3rd Straight Win

It’s survival of the fittest at this stage of lacrosse season, and Cedar Ridge is in pretty good shape.

Coming off a 14-4 victory over Orange last Friday, the Red Wolves continued to revel in revenge mode on Thursday night by beating Carrboro 10-7 at Red Wolves Stadium.

Cedar Ridge stormed out to a 5-0 lead and never trailed. As usual, the Red Wolves seniors led the way. Sean Tobin and Jack Widman each had hat tricks. Widman finished with five points, while Tobin had four.

Carter Danku, Nick Bachelder, Jacob Miles and Jackson Berry also scored goals for the Red Wolves (8-3). Demetrius Lyles picked up an assist.

It was a sweet victory for the Red Wolves, who lost to Carrboro in the 3A/2A/1A state playoffs last season at home.

Widman leads the team with 39 goals and 62 points. Tobin has 28 goals and 15 assists, while Bachelder has 15 goals and 11 assists.

Cedar Ridge has five games remaining in the regular season. The Red Wolves play three games in the span of five days next week. They travel to Eastern Alamance on Monday, followed by a home game against Riverside. Next Friday, Cedar Ridge will host East Chapel Hill. They finish the season on April 28 at Chapel Hill.

Andrews Scores Twice as Cedar Ridge Edges Chapel Hill 4-3

After losing seven of its last eight games to Chapel Hill, the Cedar Ridge baseball team was due for a win over the Tigers. It finally came in dramatic fashion on Tuesday night.

After blowing a 3-0 lead, the Red Wolves (6-1, 2-1 in the Big 8) scored in the bottom of the sixth for the game-winning run, beating Chapel Hill 4-3. It’s only the second time that Cedar Ridge has beaten CHHS as a conference rival, dating back to 2015.

Junior Erik Zehnder went 1-for-3 with an RBI, the only one of the game for CRHS.

Senior Evan Hall earned the win, while junior Chris Cox got the save.

The Red Wolves surged out to a 3-0 lead after scoring two runs in the first inning, adding another in the third. The Tigers (4-3, 0-3) tied the contest with a run in the fifth, followed by two more in the sixth off a double by Tyler Hansen.

The two teams will meet again on Friday night at Chapel Hill at 7:00. You can hear that game here on HillsboroughSports.com.

Cedar Ridge Boys Tennis Rolls Past Orange 9-0

In August, the Cedar Ridge girls tennis team wasted no time in laying notice to the rest of the Big 8 Conference that they would be a force to be reckoned with. They wound up winning the first conference championship in school history.

While it’s too early to say the Cedar Ridge boys tennis team has served a similar wake up call, they certainly looked dominant in its conference opener. Against its crosstown rival, no less.

On Monday, the Red Wolves swept Orange 9-0 at Red Wolves tennis courts. Like their female counterparts, the Red Wolves have a combination of seniors and underclassmen throughout its lineup.

At #1 singles, senior Bryce Phares defeated Orange’s Evan McCallum 6-0, 6-1. Freshman Ivo Gardener, senior Trent Gill, sophomores Seth Malie and David Vaslef all captured singles victories for CRHS, dropping a combined ten games in five matches.

Phares & Gardner teamed in doubles to win 8-0 to ensure the victory, improving Cedar Ridge’s record to 3-0. The Red Wolves opened the season with a 7-2  victory over Eastern Alamance, then swept Durham School of the Arts 9-0.

On Wednesday, Eastern Alamance travels to Hillsborough to face the Red Wolves.

Orange fell to 2-2. The Panthers started the season with a 8-1 victory over Southern Alamance. After a 9-0 loss to Burlington Williams, they topped Eastern Alamance 7-2. Freshman Ronan Towell and Noah Miller have singles victories for the Panthers, who face Burlington Williams on Thursday.
